Changing Lives, One Story at a Time
“Tails That Teach has been a valued partner of the Charleston Animal Society's humane education programs. Through their generous donation of the book, Love Me Gently, they have helped us introduce important concepts such as empathy, kindness, compassion, and responsible animal care to thousands of children. Their contributions have enhanced our educational programming and provided resources that continue to inspire young people to become advocates for animals and their communities. One of the most remarkable outcomes we have observed is the level of engagement these books generate in the classroom. Teachers consistently report that students are completely captivated by the stories. In fact, many teachers have shared their surprise that children who do not typically volunteer to read aloud are eagerly raising their hands to participate. Classroom after classroom, these books have proven to be a tremendous success, creating meaningful discussions and encouraging students to connect with reading and being kind to animals.” De Daltario, Chief Education Officer
“At Guayabo Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in Costa Rica, we are beyond grateful to Tails That Teach for their incredible generosity and unwavering commitment to inspiring compassion in children. Their donation of hundreds of beautifully illustrated, Spanish-language children’s books and workbooks has become a treasured part of our educational programming. We welcome school-age children to our sanctuary to learn about animal welfare, empathy, and the importance of treating all living beings with kindness. Thanks to Tails That Teach, these young learners not only get to engage with powerful lessons during their visit—they also get to take home a meaningful, high-quality book that reinforces those values in their own language. We are honored to partner with an organization so aligned with our mission. Tails That Teach is not only making a difference—they’re helping us raise a more compassionate generation.” Nicole Brose, Executive Director
“Thanks again for your wonderful books! The Baja California Spay/Neuter Foundation distributes the Spanish version here in Baja California, Mexico. Animal welfare is still in its infancy here so the book(s) actually legitimizes the content. Many children do not own any books at all and they are seen as precious items. When the volunteers read the story to them they are thrilled and very engaged. They ask questions about Cooper which they pronounce as CŌPER and laugh because he lives in the house. They often ask the volunteer if their dog lives in the house so it is a great conversation starter. I can't tell you how excited they are when at the end they get to keep their very own copy. Often the Mom will come back and try to return the book and when we say it is to keep they smile and bless us! Thank you for the opportunity to share our love of pets with those around us... and we pass on the blessing.” Robin Gunther, Director
“Love Me Gently and Gray Whiskers have been an integral part of our humane education curriculum at San Diego Humane Society for many years. The stories and activities reinforce our lessons of safety, kindness, and respect and share the message in a fun and age-appropriate way. The kids can easily relate to the examples in the story and apply them to their own lives. They love saying the repeating lines along with the reader, making the books engaging and interactive and something they always remember. It is such a gift to be able to give a free book to each child and see their excitement when they realize they get to actually keep it and take it home. Many of the kids tell me it is their first brand new book they've ever owned. We are so grateful to Tails That Teach for giving us the opportunity to share these books and the message of compassion with so many kids and families in our community, resulting in more pets who are valued, cared for, and loved! The activity books are also a huge hit; the kids love the variety of puzzles and immediately dive into them as soon as they get them!!” Staci Hurley, Humane Educator
As new Tails That Teach participants, The Inner Pup is thrilled to receive such high quality books at absolutely no cost to us! Giveaways are a key part of our outreach in the community, and they give us a starting point for conversations about what healthy pet ownership looks like, or how to access important resources. However, Tails That Teach are an extra special item for us to share! Instead of just giving away some toys or treats for someone's pet that they soon use up or forget about, families get to go home with a book that can be read again and again. Kids get early and immediate exposure to the best ways to engage with pets, and the books start the conversation on what kind and compassionate pet ownership and animal interactions look like. The books fly off our tables at outreach events and we couldn't be more thrilled to hand them out! Mari Nerbovig, Humane Educator
“I wanted to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your generous donations of Love Me Gently to our Kindness Kids Programs here at Orange County Animal Allies. Your book has been such a meaningful part of how we introduce children to kindness, compassion, and the human-animal bond, and we have seen firsthand the way it resonates with young readers. The connection between literacy and the love of animals is something we hold close to our mission, and Tails that Teach embodies that beautifully. We are so proud to have your work in the hands of the children we serve.” Peter Chang, Executive Director
