About the Author

Lisa Wiehebrink writes books that uniquely bridge the connection between people and animals and is the founder of Tails That Teach.  She believes that by caring for a pet, children learn important life lessons about kindness, patience, unconditional love, compassion, and empathy. These lessons help them relate to the people in their lives from childhood to adulthood. Lisa is also the proud founder of National Rescue Dog Day which recognizes the special bond that comes with rescuing a dog, and also brings awareness to the countless number of dogs waiting to be adopted. Lisa is a graduate of California State University Fullerton and lives in southern California with her husband, two sons, and four rescue dogs.

What They're Saying...

One of the Best Books for Kids Who Love Animals...A Must-Read Compassionate Book
We are retired kindergarten teachers turned children’s bookstore owners. We don’t accept many new books, but Love Me Gently is so well written with its kind messages and sweet illustrations. Our customers love it!
— Island Tales Children's Book Store, Balboa Island, CA

Love Me Gently is exactly what every parent should share with their children. It is a fun yet very important book that teaches compassion which is critical to helping animals and children! Children who are taught how to love a pet have a better chance to understand their own emotions as well as those of their pet. These pets are loved more and less likely to end up harmed or back in our nation’s shelters.

Love Me Gently gives us tools to share with our children to make the world a better place for both animals and humans. Please share it with everyone you know!
— Robert Cabral, Bound Angels / Founder - Executive Director

Highly useful for the kids. Thanks for helping us keep our perspectives as adults too.
— David Price, Parent
It was wonderful to have Lisa read her book to the children! The story gave many examples of how we can be kind, respectful, compassionate, and loving to all our furry friends. Our children went home eagerly sharing what they learned and our parents were grateful for the valuable lessons demonstrated in the story.
— Kristin Marie Kintanar, Primary Head Teacher, LePort Schools, Irvine Orchard Hills

Gray Whiskers is a perfect idea and perfect presentation.

I recommend Lisa Wiehebrink and her wonderful book, LOVE ME GENTLY, as well as her special Happy Tails Humane Education program to schools everywhere! Lisa has taken the world of the child and placed in a sphere of respect and caring. After experiencing Ms. Wiehebrink’s book and program, children emerge with the superhero power of a kind heart applied to their every day experiences.

Many, many thanks for the wonderful books for our Shelter Buddy Reading Program!! We LOVE ‘Love Me Gently’!! We are certain that the children reading these books to our homeless animals will be given a real gift in the process…the beautiful messages of respect and responsibility to all living creatures. I love the values you instill in this beautiful story of patience and love between Cooper and Henry.
